History

London Molecular Parasitology Club

The LMPC was started in 1989 by Deborah Smith and Andrew Simpson.

The two met at a Keystone meeting on Parasitism and decided that a local forum was needed for the discussion of molecular parasitology.

The meetings cover a wide range of topics, spanning a broad spectrum of organisms and experimental approaches. Each meeting aims to discuss at least two parasite systems, with a balance of hardcore molecular science and more biologically focused presentations.

The first meeting was held at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and featured as speakers Alan Fairlamb and Tony Holder.
